Dorothy Petersen

Dorothy passed away on August 11, 2023 at the age of 95. She was born on December 2, 1927 in Jamestown, North Dakota to James Shipman and Cecelia McCurdy Shipman. Dorothy grew up with 2 sisters whom she loved dearly throughout her life. Dorothy and her sister Arlys were avid skaters; first ice skating in North Dakota and then roller skating after moving to Tacoma. Dorothy met her husband, George Petersen at a skating rink. They were married for 62 years and raised 4 children in the Tacoma area. In retirement they enjoyed boating and then motorhome traveling that included the Alcan Highway and snow-birding to Arizona. Dorothy is survived by her sons Michael and Larry; daughter Debra Hagadorn; grandchildren Jeremy (Kimberly), Kris (Erika),
and Kyle Petersen and Chad Hagadorn; great-grandchildren Mackenzie Kay and Zoey Petersen; sisters Joy Herstad-Tolen and Arlys Lane. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, and son G. Edwin Jr. (Barbara).

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, August 29, 2023, 11:00 am at Pope Saint John XXIII Parish Church, 7025 S Park Avenue, Tacoma. A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 am just prior to the Funeral Mass.
