Dorothy Kiku Morita

February 14, 1930 — February 23, 2014

Obituary Kikuko Dorothy Morita Kikuko Dorothy Morita, February 14, 1930 (we never missed her Valentine's Day celebration); passed away suddenly on February 23, 2014 at home. Kiku (Dorothy) attended Fife grade school. During WWII she was relocated to Minidoka Internment Camp and attended Junior High there. She graduated from Fife High School class of 1948 as Co-Salutatorian and continued her education at Knapp's Business College. Being raised in America and being the youngest of six, she was instilled with a quiet tenacity that she displayed throughout her life. She had the skill of approaching negativity with humor, and keeping order amongst different personalities throughout her 30-plus career at the Department of Social and Health Services, retiring as Department Supervisor. Always creating and learning Ikebana throughout her life gave her balance and a sense of calm. Shoka or Seika style, as she would say, ten (heaven), chi (earth), jin (man). Kiku was a devoted member of the Tacoma Buddhist Temple and the Buddhist Women's Association. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and valued her time with her family. From her life's journey, she made and maintained many friends, all special and unique, all touching her life in ways she truly cherished. Thank you for sharing her life with us. Preceded in death by husband, Charles H. Morita; brothers, Kaname, Yosh, and Kazuma; and sister, Ayako. Survived by brother, Hiroshi (Kats) Fujita; children, Glenn (Dee), Kelly, and Renee (Michael) Moriguchi; and grandchildren, Charles, Guy, Jeremy and Declan Morita, Tyler and Tana Tamaki. Services to be held at Tacoma Buddhist Temple March 15, 2014 at 11am, 1717 S Fawcett, 253-627-1417. Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home, (253) 572-6003.
