Dorothy Mae Harrison

January 27, 1927 — January 14, 2013

Obituary Dorothy M. Harrison Dorothy M. Harrison passed away quietly surrounded by family on January 14, 2013. She was born on January 27, 1927 to Lillian & Harvey Beauchamp. She lived just short of 86 years. She loved to tell stories about growing up in South Tacoma and living next door to her Grandma and Grandpa Palmer. When she got home from school she would run over to her Grandparents house while her parents were running the family drug store, Highway Drug on South Tacoma Way. She graduated from St. Leo's High School in 1945. Her high school graduating class still meets monthly for lunch. Two days after graduation she got a job at the Port of Tacoma doing payroll. Her favorite story was about welcoming the ships bringing the soldiers home from WWII. After taking some time off to start her family she went to work for Harrison Brothers where she worked as a bookkeeper. She then took on her life's passion of building her family. She was the matriarch of our family which consisted of three daughters, eight grandchildren and four great granddaughters. The most important thing was that we all get along and she taught us to get along no matter what. She loved putting on family parties, trips, cruises and holiday dinners. She loved talking to people. She was an extremely kind and friendly person who could meet a stranger and have them laughing within just a few minutes. She and her husband Jim celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 27th. At the celebration she was so excited to be with friends and family. She was on cloud nine full of love and happiness. She is survived by her husband Jim, her three daughters, Patty Patten of Shelton, Colleen Bartz of Olympia and Donna Perryman of Shelton and all of her grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at Gaffney Funeral Home on Wednesday January 30, 2013 at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
