Dorothy Ann Glastetter, born on February 10, 1923 in Tacoma, Washington to Henry and Helen Schneider, passed away June 3, 2023 in Puyallup, Washington. Dorothy lived her entire life in the Puget Sound area, happily spending most of her last 70 years living in her Parkland home.
Dorothy received a diploma from Stadium High School and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Seattle University. She started her career after World War II as a registered nurse in Tacoma then took some time off to have children. Dorothy later returned to work as a school nurse in Puyallup until she retired in 1983.
After retiring, Dorothy and her husband Herman spent time travelling around the country in their motorhome until Herman passed away in 1994. Dorothy loved to travel and continued to do so with
friends and family visiting numerous countries on six continents. She was especially fond of her journey to Antarctica.
Dorothy enjoyed golfing and frequented the links for many years until a hip replacement sidelined her in her eighties. She loved to hunt for mushrooms in the Washington woods and was a member of the local mushroom society. Dorothy was a faithful member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven church and enjoyed her volunteer work at the parish as well as the many social gatherings such as annual picnics, parish parties and senior lunches. Dorothy was also a volunteer at the Parkland Library, and over the years, belonged to various organizations including the Tacoma Outboard Association, the Puyallup Elks, and the Single Sam’s RV Club.
Dorothy’s legacy includes a Tacoma building bearing her name. In 1928, her father, a Tacoma area builder, named a four-story apartment building on Tacoma Avenue for his youngest daughter. That building, known today as “The Dorothy,” is an integral part of the historic Stadium district.
Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Mark Glastetter, Sequim; and Kurt Glastetter (Vickie), Puyallup; four grandchildren, Mark Glastetter Jr., Graham; Heidi Schmidt, Tampa, FL; Benjamin Glastetter, Curlew; and Mia Glastetter, Seattle; and six great-grandchildren. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband, Herman; parents, Henry and Helen Schneider; her brothers, James and Richard Schneider; and her sister, Mary Shelton.
Catholic Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, June 13, 2023, 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady Queen of Heaven church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery next to her husband Herman. Arrangements are by
