Obituary Dorothy Marie Barnes Dorothy passed away in Portland, OR on May 9, 2012 after a short illness. She is now in her beloved husband Cy's arms. Cy passed away in 2002. She was born in Elma, Iowa on July 23, 1920 to Francis and Maude Gleason. Later, her brother John (Jack) completed this small family. One of Dorothy's first jobs was working at the Iowa State Capitol as the secretary to the Representative from Des Moines, Iowa. Dorothy married Cyrus Barnes on June 19, 1941. Together they raised 5 wonderful children, Kay Miller (Sandy, deceased) CO, Larry (Robin) WA, Neil (Jill) CA, Lance (Yolanda) UT and Mary Jo Saavedra (Jaime), OR. She also leaves behind 9 fantastic grandchildren, 8 super great-grandchildren, 1 and one on the way, great-great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and friends. Cy and Dorothy moved from Santa Clara, CA to WA in 1989, leaving lots of family and friends there. Dorothy was a devout Catholic saying her Rosary daily. She belonged to The Third Order of the Carmelites, Legion of Mary, and The Blue Army Rosary. Dorothy loved everything sweet, especially Caramellos and See's Candy. Her love for family, friends, being Irish and her church were an inspiration to all. Our Family wishes to thank Maryville Memory Center and Hospice for all their love and support during this hard time. Dorothy will be buried next to Cy at Calvary Cemetery, Tacoma. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St John Bosco Catholic Church, Lakewood on Friday, May 18th. Rosary at 10:30am, Mass at 11:00am, reception follows.
