Dennis Seinfeld

January 1, 1970 — August 1, 2005

Obituary Dennis Gary Seinfeld April 19, 1940 to August 1, 2005 Dennis Seinfeld, an attorney who dedicated his life to serving justice and his community, died Monday after a fall at his get-away paradise cottage on the Gig Harbor peninsula. He was loving husband to Karen Seinfeld for 44 years, devoted father to Keith (Beth), Jeff (Tikva), and Nicole (David) Banschick; Saba to his eight grandchildren, and brother to Deanne Rubinstein. Denny, a native Tacoman, graduated from Stadium High School in 1957 and then attended Stanford University and Yale Law School. He first practiced law in the Office of the Attorney General, and then, in 1965, he headed for Mississippi to help in the civil rights struggle. He later moved back to Tacoma and joined his father, Lester, in forming the Seinfeld & Seinfeld law firm, which eventually merged with Davies Pearson. In addition to the pleasure of working with a large group of supportive colleagues, Denny embraced the firm's sabbatical program, taking his family for a ten-month jaunt around the world. A generous spirit, kayaker, bread-baker, and physical fitness enthusiast, Denny cared deeply about his family and community. He served the community as: chair of the Tacoma Human Relations Commission, an elected Pierce County Freeholder (helping draft the first county charter), chair and 13-year member of the Tacoma Community College Board of Trustees, and founding member and 2nd president of Tacoma City Club. He also served on the boards of: the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation, Temple Beth El, Greater Lakes Mental Health Center and the Tacoma Art Museum. He was looking forward to his newest role, on the Advisory Board of the Cascade Land Conservancy. Denny also served the legal profession in many capacities, including as a Pierce County Bar Trustee and as a member of the State Disciplinary Board and the State Qualifications Committee. Denny's private passions were sharing time with his grandchildren, puttering at his beach cottage retreat, traveling to off-the-beaten track places, exercising and socializing with his Y buddies, and entertaining good friends. Denny's family, friends, and clients will miss his generosity, compassion, and profound sense of justice. There will be a graveside service at 10 A.M. on Thursday, August 4, 2005 at the Home of Peace Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service be held at noon at Temple Beth El. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Denny's name to the Seinfeld Family Scholarship Fund at TCC, the Tacoma Art Museum, the Tahoma Land Conservancy, or the Temple Beth El Building Fund.
