Obituary Sister Denise Joseph died on Monday, January 15th at St. Ann Convent. Sister Denise Joseph Drew (Mary Drew) was born in County Cork Ireland. At the age of twenty-two she entered the religious congregation of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. Sister spent sixteen years in ministry in the Easter United State mainly in Baltimore, Wilmington and Philadelphia. She ministered in education and healthcare as a support person to sisters and staff of these various ministries. When she transferred to the Western United States she ministered in school convents in Klamath Falls and Pendleton Oregon, San Diego, California, and Seattle and Tacoma Washington. Sister Denise lived a quiet prayerful life. She was very well informed in current events and made a practice to pray for the local, national, and world needs. She also enjoyed watching sports, and of course included the Mariners, Seahawks and Notre Dame in her prayers. Her final ministry was prayer ministry at St. Ann Convent. Sister cheerfully endured a long illness with grace and patience. Sister is survived be her nephews Timothy and Gerald Murphy, her cousin Kathleen Falvey, and by grand nieces and nephews. Sister is also survived by the members of her Franciscan congregation. The Sisters of St. Francis are grateful to the staff of St. Ann for your loving care of Sister Denise Joseph. The rosary was Sister's favorite prayer. The vigil on Thursday, January 18th, at 6:30 pm will be recitation of the rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on January 19th. The rosary and Mass will be at St. Ann Convent, 6602 South Alaska. Burial will follow immediately at Calvary Cemetery, Tacoma.
