Darrell Henderson

Obituary Darrell Lee Henderson passed away peacefully on April 14, 2005 at Franciscan Hospice House of Tacoma surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Isla and Faye Henderson in Springfield, Oregon, on January 12, 1914. As a young child he relocated to Tacoma where he resided until his death. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1932, he joined City Window Cleaning of Tacoma and worked with his dad. He later took over the business and continued working until he retired in 2001 at age 87. He had many fond memories of the people he met, working in both businesses and homes. Darrell enjoyed playing soccer and baseball as a youngster and coached both sports as an adult in Tacoma. His passion, however, was music, which he played throughout his life. He began playing with a trio in the 1930's throughout Washington and Oregon. It was then he met his future wife Jessie Mele, while playing in Walla Walla. He eventually played with an 8 piece dance band performing for various dance clubs, the Officers and NCO clubs throughout Pierce County. He was a lifetime member of the Musicians Union and the Building Service Employees Union. He belonged to St. Patrick's Catholic Church and for the last 20 years to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Darrell will be remembered for his hard work and dedication, for his positive attitude and love of his family. He is survived by his sons: Jim, of Tacoma; Dick (Mary) of Everett; grandsons: Pat (RaeAnn), Sean (Jody) and Chris (Dee) and 6 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at 10:30 am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Private interment at Calvary Cemetery, Tacoma.
