Daisy Olivia Chang-Radloff

November 2, 1927 — July 10, 2021

Daisy Olivia Chang-Radloff, born in Colón, Panama, on November 2, 1927, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loved ones, on July 10, 2021. She was 93.

Everyone who was blessed to have known Daisy can attest to her immense love of life itself, her many children and grandchildren, her Catholic faith, and her beautiful garden. After marrying the late Marvin C. Radloff Sr. (“Pete”), a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army, and, after immigrating to the United States, Daisy and Marvin had four children, Miriam Catherine (“Cathy”) married to husband Bob, Deborah (“Debbie”) married to husband Phil, Marvin Clarence Jr. (also, “Pete”) married to wife Paula, and Joseph (“Joe”) married to wife Laure, who all survive both Marvin Sr. and Daisy. Daisy is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Olivia, Peter, Amber, Nathaniel, Marinna, Hagen, and Peytra, and her three great-grandchildren, Chase, Lincoln, and Ezri. Daisy’s love for her family and friends was fierce and all-encompassing. Her remarkable cooking and the gifted items she hand-painted in her craft room are just a few examples of the many ways she expressed and showed this love. Above all, however, it will be her strong-willed presence, resilient spirit, and humor, that will be missed the most.

Besides being an exceptional mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Daisy received her degree in Human Services from Western Washington University. Starting in September of 1970, she worked for the Washington Department of Health and Human Services, working up the ladder, while raising four children no less, to become a social worker. She retired from social work at age 65 to dedicate more time to her family and her beloved rose bushes. Further, she served as President of the Tacoma Rose Society and was an integral part of restoring the Rose Garden at Pt. Defiance. At age 80, Daisy took American Sign Language (ASL) and interpreter courses at the Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf (SWCID) in Big Springs, Texas. She was also heavily involved with her Parishes, St. Leo and St. Rita, for many decades.  At St. Rita she was an active member of the Sodality Club. Daisy firmly believed in the power of prayer and embodied compassion for others throughout her lifetime.

Daisy’s Funeral Mass will be held at St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church in Tacoma, Washington, on July 29, 2021, at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception immediately after. If you are unable to attend, but would like to honor Daisy’s memory, donations to the Jesuits, Tacoma Rose Society, or L’Arche Community, of any amount would be greatly appreciated.
