Obituary Corris Burbidge Gehring Corris Burbidge Gehring passed away peacefully at her home on May 15, 2012 at the age of 96. She was one who appreciated life at its fullest. Her love for family and friends was always apparent, and she had the rare quality of being able to brighten people's lives. She was born February 25, 1916 in Kamas, Utah to Anthon Lemon Burbidge and Selena Fern Jones Burbidge. She married Walter Gehring on August 26, 1936 in the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were married for 54 years before her husband passed away in 1990. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities over her long lifetime. A very talented person, she loved working with the youth of the Church. In her earlier years, she wrote and directed many church plays and road shows that were always of the highest quality. She just seemed to have a knack for making anything she was involved in special. She was a very creative person, who could grow, make, sew, cook, or do just about anything. She was never afraid to try her hand at a new thing. She was never one to draw attention to herself; rather her main goal was to make every event special for others. A rare quality and gift, she was a true servant. She worked for many years as an interior design consultant and a drapery specialist. She loved to help her clients with their homes, and developed many lasting friendships with people in the Tacoma area. Corris and Walter raised their three children in Salt Lake City, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, and Tacoma, Washington. She loved the trees and green of Washington. Corris was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Gehring, her oldest son Brent Gehring, a grandson Wulf Gehring, and a great-grandson Kay Gehring. She is survived by her son Gerald Gehring (Rebecca), her daughter Carol Jean Gardner (Steven), her brother, Richard Burbidge; 15 grandchildren, and 47 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank all the wonderful caregivers and hospice workers who have so lovingly taken care of our mother for the last two months of her life. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 12 noon at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, Grandview and Beckonridge Drive, in University Place, WA. Graveside dedication will follow at The New Tacoma Cemetery.
