Clarence Snodgrass

July 2, 1933 — July 31, 2019

Obituary Clarence Richard Snodgrass passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at home in Lakewood, WA with family by his side. He was born in Spalding, NE on July 2, 1933, the 2nd of six children. He graduated from Spalding Academy in May 1951 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy immediately after. He served in the Navy from 1951 to 1957. He was trained as a cryptographer and was stationed in California, Korea, Japan and Taiwan. Upon his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, Clarence attended the University of Nebraska, graduating in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in 1963 and worked in the corporate world in Accounting and Finance, then in Public Accounting as an Accountant, Auditor and Tax Preparer. He retired from accounting in 2007, at age 74. Clarence is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence L. Snodgrass and Lucille C. Vanderpool Snodgrass, and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Patt and Bob Glaser and MaryLou and John Harris. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Esther Hill, daughter Therese (Michael) Morgart, and two grandchildren, Jack Brindle and Kayla Morgart. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Mahoney, and his two brothers, Tom (Pam) Snodgrass and Jim (Denise) Snodgrass. He leaves behind many, many nieces and nephews. Clarence was a member of St. Leo Church, a Jesuit Parish in Tacoma, WA. Clarence served on the Finance Committee for some years and also was an usher for several years. He loved it at St. Leo's and was much-loved by all who knew him there. Clarence met his wife, Esther, when they were both members of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Tacoma (formerly Kiwanis Club of the Tacoma Mall). Clarence joined Kiwanis in 1990. He served as Treasurer and/or Secretary for many years and twice as President of the Club. He received a Hixson Award for Outstanding Service. Clarence participated in a bowling league in Lakewood from 2006 - 2010 and brought home awards for "Last Place Champs". He played baseball for a local league in Nebraska when he was still in high school. His dad had played baseball semi-professionally and coached the team that Clarence played on. Thus, we think, his love of baseball! The Seattle Mariners were his all-time favorite team, and he was also a fan of the Seattle Seahawks and the Seattle Sonics. He was a kind and thoughtful man and will be missed by so many relatives and friends. If anyone would like to make a donation in Clarence's memory, please make them to The Food Connection at St. Leo's Catholic Church at 710 S 13th St, Tacoma, WA 98405.
