Charles Richard Dolph

April 17, 1939 — October 22, 2006

Obituary Charles Richard "Dick" Dolph "A ship in the harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for." Born April 17th 1939 in Hood River, Oregon Charles Richard "Dick" Dolph passed away peacefully on October 22, 2006 surrounded by his children Christopher, Rachel, Tina and Paris, their mother, Jeannette; daughter in law, Eryca and son in law, Dennis. A rock and anchor to all who knew him, Dick's soul lives on in the hearts of his children, his sister D. Faye Higbee of Post Falls, ID, his grandchildren Kailynn, Mykael, Alexandyr, Ian, David & Sarah, his life long co-workers at Marine Industries Northwest Inc., his dear friends at Johnny's Dock and Stanley & Seaforts, the children of the Children's Home Society and a countless number of close friends to include Raymond and Jeannette-Dolph Ingersoll, Pat Wagner, Cindy Henry, Dave Bingham, "Crazy" Mary, Tena Bailey and Andrea Wolfe. Growing up in Post Falls, Idaho, Dick learned the shipbuilding trade from his father. After spending a few years in the Navy and Air Force, Dick turned his passion for drafting ships into his livelihood, spending 30 years with Marine Industries Northwest Inc., honing his craft. Dock workers, vendors, receptionists and peers, Dick had great admiration and respect for all. An avid collector of guns and precious rocks, Dick also enjoyed golfing, vacationing in Hawaii, "dabbling a little" in Johnny's Dock Backbay Investment Club, and organizing the annual Children's Home Society golf tournament. Although not a boastful man, Dick was extremely proud of his children and their accomplishments no matter how great or small. A memorial service and open house celebrating Dick's life will be held from 1pm to 6pm, with a time for remembrance and sharing at 3:30 pm, Thursday, November 2nd at Johnny's Dock Restaurant & Marina located at 1900 East D Street Tacoma, Washington 98421. All Dick's friends are invited to come and remember this very special man. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Children's Home Society in Dick's memory.
