Obituary Carole Marie MacHutchin (née Sexton) passed away on November 15, 2018 at the age of 82 in Tacoma, Washington. She is survived by her loving family; her husband of 53 years, Gavin; daughter Monica (Robert) Ritchey; son Lachlan; son Iain (Halili) and five grandsons: Gabriel, Jonathan, Jacob, Samuel and Nicholas. Carole was born on April 27, 1936 in Spokane, Washington to Grattan and Dorothy Sexton. She was the oldest of their five children (Denny, Greg, Bob and Trish). She graduated from Holy Names Academy in 1954 and Sacred Heart Nursing School in 1957. After graduation, Carole moved to Portland, Oregon and worked as a Registered Nurse for almost 2 years. In 1961, Carole made the bold decision to leave the Pacific North West and move across the world to take a nursing position in India. While traveling and working in Kenya, she met her husband, Gavin and they married in Rhodesia in 1965. Carole and Gavin continued to work and travel extensively in Africa and Europe for the next three years. They returned to the States and raised their three children. Carole worked full time as an R.N. in Spokane, Boston and Tacoma for the next 30 years. She specialized in obstetrics and peri-natal special care until she retired in 2001. Through hard work, determination and grit, she was able to provide a better life for her family. Carole had a wicked sense of humor, a curious mind and a tender heart. She had many interests and talents but especially enjoyed tending to her garden and being with her family. One of Carole's greatest joys was music. She played the piano, guitar and she started studying harp at the age of 75. She was an active member of Saint Patrick's Catholic Church since 1984 and a proud member of their choir for over 30 years. She formed many friendships there and in her neighborhood. Carole was a beloved sister, wife, mother and grandmother who will be profoundly missed by her family and friends. Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home
