Obituary Byron I. "By" Larsen passed away peacefully on July 29, 2008. Byron was born in Tacoma to Marie and Alf G. Larsen on November 29, 1921. His early life was spent on the family farm with his parents and grandmother in Midland where he performed many of the daily chores that helped keep the household and farm running. He went to Stadium High School and graduated in 1939. While in high school he worked at his father's tent, awning and canvas goods business in downtown Tacoma. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army. While stationed in Idaho, he severely broke his leg playing football while waiting for his wartime assignment. He remained hospitalized for over a year. During this time he received scholarships from the Army to study geology and mining engineering at the University of Idaho and later at the University of Utah. After graduating from the University of Washington, By worked for the State of Alaska on geologic projects, eventually settling back in Tacoma where he married and started his own business as a consulting engineer based out of downtown Seattle. Byron Larsen was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, sailing, photography and raising Brittany spaniels that he entered in field trials. He also enjoyed helping organize the Stadium High School reunions from his class and loved going up to Knapp's Restaurant several times a week to meet with his old high school friends. Byron Larsen Is survived by Nancy Larsen his wife of 57 years, his children Chris and Bill Larsen (Dory) of Seattle and grandchildren Max and Jack Larsen.
