Obituary Brian Joseph Sullivan Brian Joseph Sullivan, age 48, died on December 8, 2014 in Barrow, Alaska. Born on December 6, 1966 in Tacoma, Washington, Brian grew up in University Place and attended school at St. Charles Borromeo and Bellarmine Preparatory High School. He graduated from the University of Washington and then earned his Juris Doctorate at Mississippi College in Jackson. Brian returned to Tacoma when he finished law school. He served the 29th District as a State Representative for two terms. Brian enlisted in the Army National Guard while in law school. He later was commissioned an officer and served in the Army Reserves before moving to Ft. Wainwright, near Fairbanks, Alaska, for active duty in April 2001. In 2004, Brian moved to Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, and from there spent a year in Guantanamo Bay. The family returned to Alaska and was stationed at Ft. Richardson in December 2005. As a Major at Ft. Richardson, he was deployed to Iraq. When he left the Army, he had a private law practice in Palmer before moving to Barrow in May 2012 to work as an Assistant District Attorney for the State of Alaska. Brian enjoyed reading, hiking, skiing, boating, and road trips. With an outgoing nature, he enjoyed meeting people wherever he went. More than anything he loved his daughters. Nothing in life meant more to him than being a dad and being there for them whenever he could. Brian is survived by his mother Madeleine, his sister Maura, and daughters Molly, Anne Rose, and Madeleine, whom he shared with his former wife, Julie. His father, Albert, preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at any branch of Wells Fargo into the account titled "Molly Sullivan: Sullivan Daughters' Donation" in memory of Brian to benefit his children. Alternatively, donations may also be made in Brian's name to the non-profit organization Victims for Justice in Anchorage, Alaska (www.victimsforjustice.net). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2014, at 11:00 am at Bellarmine Preparatory High School in Tacoma, Washington.
