Brendon James Merritt

April 8, 1981 — May 16, 2024

Tacoma

Brendon unexpectedly passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024.

Much of Brendon's life revolved around sports. This began with youth soccer, junior golf, and basketball. He attended Life Christian School and continued his schooling at Bellarmine Prep.

After graduating from Bellarmine Prep in 1999, Brendon played basketball at Tacoma Community College and finished college at Eastern Washington University, leading the Eagles to their first appearance in the Division 1 College Basketball NCAA “March Madness” Tournament in 2004. Brendon played professional basketball in Europe for 2 years before injuries cut his playing days short.

Brendon was a charismatic person that attracted many friends. He loved being on the golf course or singing karaoke. He was excited to be a husband and dad with one year old Brendon Jr. being his pride and joy.

Brendon is survived by his wife Erin, son Brendon Jr, stepson Brantley, parents Jim and Claudia, sister Melanie (Micah), brother Jacob (Aubrie), nephews Tanner and Braedon, and niece Lucy.

Please join the family for a “Celebration of Life” reception on June 14th at 2 PM at Bellarmine Prep’s Connelly Campus Center. Please consider a donation to your favorite charity, the Bellarmine Prep Scholarship Fund, or the Tacoma-Pierce Athletic Commission.
