Obituary Blake Hirsh Dad passed on to be with Mom early in the morning of 11/29/10. He departed peacefully and although our hearts are heavy they are filled with gratitude for all he has given us. He was born 1/23/21 in Portland, Oregon to Paul and Verna (Awde) Hirsh. He grew up there with his younger brother Blair who passed two years ago. Blake graduated from Grant High School in Portland and continued his education at the University of Oregon before hiring on with Pan American Airways. His training included flying mail in the South Pacific. He and our mother Ruth were married on July 19, 1942 in Portland. She preceded him in death a little more than a month ago after 68 years of marriage. His seven children; Robin (Bob) Tiehen, Steve (Rita), Paul (Char), Nancy, Will, Tom (Lois), and John (Katsie) along with fifteen grandchildren and sixteen (and counting) great-grandchildren will all miss him. Upon his retirement after 30 years with Pan Am he kept busy by running marathons and sailing. He earned his 100 ton mariners license and made coastal boat deliveries. Dad loved dealing with nature and staying healthy. For the past seven years he has unselfishly stayed at Mom's side as Alzheimer's disease took its toll. A family gathering was held at the Gaffney Funeral Home in Tacoma on Saturday the 4th. Our deepest gratitude goes out to the staff of Bristol Court at the Weatherly Inn of Tacoma for the outstanding care and comfort they gave to Dad as well as Franciscan Hospice who were a comfort to us all. Should a contribution in Dad's honor be made either or both are well deserving.
