Barbara Anne (Leal) Tomberg, loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.
Barbara Anne (Leal) Tomberg passed away October 7, 2024 at the age of 92 in Tacoma, Washington. Barbara was born on February 24, 1932 in Sacramento, California to John M. Leal and Cecelia A. (Lial) Leal. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 71 years Ralph T. “Tom” Tomberg Sr. (just three weeks earlier), son Ralph T. “Thomas” Tomberg Jr., and brothers J. Keith and Donald A. Leal, sisters-in-law Laurene E. Leal and Betty Lou Ellis, and brother-in-law Norbert J. Tomberg. She is survived by her granddaughter Thomasine C. Wolfgram, sisters-in-law Janet M. Leal and Patricia A. Iannello, brother-in-law Charles R. Ellis, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Barbara graduated from St. Frances Catholic High School in Sacramento, California in 1950. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, and a Masters of Social Work graduate degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. She met her future husband, the love and best friend of her life, while attending college in Sacramento. They were married on April 18, 1953.
As Tom served in the US Military, both reserve and active, for over 32 years, Barbara enjoyed the wonderful experience of living and meeting new friends in various states in the USA as well as overseas tours in England and Germany.
Barbara also enjoyed 20 years of employment in Clinical Social Service with Family and Children’s Service in Springfield, Virginia and then as a Medical Clinic Social Service Patient Care Coordinator upon moving to Tacoma, Washington.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1124 N. J Street, Tacoma, Washington on November 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington on November 14, 2024 at 10:30 AM.
