Obituary Augustus C. Barnett III January 22, 1919 - October 6, 2008 Augustus C. Barnett III, Chuck as he was known to his friends, passed away quietly at his home in Tacoma on Monday, October 6, 2008. Born in Tacoma, he was the only son of A.C. Barnett Jr. and Esther Peterson Barnett. A life long Tacoma resident he graduated Stadium High School in 1938 and spent time in the National Guard before joining the Army in WWII. He served in the Army Air Force in the China-Burma-India theater flying the "hump", which was the air supply route from Burma to China. Returning in 1945 he settled back into life in Tacoma where he met and married Carol Wahlund of Forman, ND. They had two children, Augustus C. Barnett IV and Todd Allen Barnett and divorced in the 1970's. He worked for many years for the US Postal Service. His later years were spent with his dear friend Chidori Ray of Tacoma. Chuck & Chidori traveled in the US and to Japan several times where her family lives. In 1997 he returned to Southeast Asia & China with his eldest son to visit areas from WWII. He was a past member of the Tacoma Yacht Club, was the current Commander of American Legion Post 187, and involved in Stadium High class reunions. His first wife and younger son preceded him in death. His eldest son, Charlie Barnett of Fox Island survives him. He will be laid to rest in the family plot at Old Tacoma Cemetery.
