Anna Gavigan

October 5, 1929 — March 7, 2006

Obituary Anna "Nana" Gavigan Anna Gavigan, 76, died peacefully at home on March 7th, 2006, surrounded by her family. She was born in Scotland on October 5th, 1929, but was Irish to the core. Nana grew up in Meentashask, Ardara Parish, County Donegal, Ireland. Her childhood sweetheart and neighbor on the mountains near Ardara was Charlie Gavigan of Lough NaLoughraman. Nana emigrated to Tacoma in 1949, and married Charlie at Holy Rosary Church in 1955. They were together for 51 years. She is survived by Charlie, their five children, Charles (Toni), Patrick, Sheila, Mary Rooth (Dan), and Jim (Melissa). Among Nana's greatest joys were her seven grandchildren, Curt, Kaitlin, Kiara, Michaela, Shelby, Maiti, and Julia, and her two great grandchildren, Benjamin and Brady. She is also survived by her three brothers and seven sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Father Kieran. Nana especially loved dancing, singing, tea, Irish bread, laughing, and spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and friends. In addition to raising her family, she attended classes at Tacoma Community College when she was 62 to reach her life-long goal of a high school diploma. We were proud of the A's she received. Nana was a very strong and determined woman, which was never more evident than in the efforts she made to overcome the strokes that eventually led to her death. Her family was proud of her and forever inspired by her positive attitude, inner strength, and deep faith. May our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother rest in peace until we see her again. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 13, 2006, 11:00 am Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Tacoma. Rosary will be recited Sunday, March 12, 2006, 6:00 pm also at the church. Interment at Calvary Cemetery. Please leave online condolences at www.gaffneyfuneralhome.com . Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home 253-572-6003.
