Granny Annie adored her grandchildren and relished every moment she spent with them creating memories together: Spencer, Madeline, Mason, Drazen, Sophia, Luke, Casey, Braiden, Pepper, and Lucy Marinkovich. Ann was born in Tacoma Washington as a first generation Croatian/American to immigrant parents from Brac' Croatia. She was raised in Old Town Tacoma and attended St. Patrick's Grade school and Aquinas Academy. Ann took the train to Washington State College for a year, finishing her education from The College of Puget Sound in 1952. While attending she spent time with friends in PI Beta Phi or singing with the Delphian Choir. Ann completed a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Ann married the love of her life Frank Marinkovich in 1954. She continued to teach elementary students for six years while her husband followed the Croatian tradition of fishing in Puget Sound waters for salmon. Our mother was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Holy Cross Church as well as a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas. As members of the Slavonian American Benevolent Society Mom and Dad spent quality time with relatives in the Croatian community celebrating holidays and special occasions with dance and song. Mom was an artist at heart and when she wasn't singing to us as children or painting portraits of family members she would spend time baking with her mother and sister Mary or making traditional meals with the family. Most memorable travels were to Italy and Croatia with family where Ann was united with relatives. She Traveled to Canada to visit extended family in Vancouver. She enjoyed an Alaska cruise along the coast with Frank, John and Mary. Ann would spend the summer months on the beaches of Washington State swimming and sunbathing. Great memories were made at Point Richmond, Ruston way waterfront, Point Defiance, the cabin at Congers Roost, Lake Cushman and boating on their purse seiner "Gladiator" to Friday Harbor in The San Juan Islands. Our mother had an open heart to many animals. Some of her favorites were her dogs 2P, 2P2, Wrigley, Chuvar, Tuffy, Muffin, and her chicken Speedy. In lieu of flowers please take the time to share a random act of kindness with a stranger or a loved one. Special thanks to Doris Atoigue and Sylvia Rogers for all the above and beyond care they gave mom. A Funeral Mass for Ann will be celebrated in Tacoma Washington at Holy Cross Church at 11:00 on Saturday November 24th, 2018. A life celebration will follow at the Slavonian American Benevolent Society (Slav Hall). Private family entombment at Calvary Cloisters. Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home
