Adrian Thomas Luchino

January 1, 1970 — January 22, 2006

Obituary Adrian T. Luchino, 91, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to everyone, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Sunday, January 22nd, 2006, with his wife and family at his side. He and Wanda had been married 71 years. Mr. Luchino was born of French and Italian descent on September 24th, 1914 in Wilkeson, Washington. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma and worked at Martinac Shipyard during World War II and for 20 years thereafter. He was then self-employed in property management until age 85. Adrian always had an open and curious mind, was an avid reader, enthusiastic traveler and historian, and a builder. No enterprise was too large or small for him to undertake. His hobbies were work, music and dancing; and, he had his own band early in life. He was always optimistic, greeting life with a stout heart and cheerful spirit. His voluntary service to church and community over several decades was extensive. He and a handful of fellow volunteers solicited funds and donated materials to construct a Boys Club for East Tacoma. They went on to build the spacious building - now the Eastside Boys & Girls Club - with their volunteer labor; and continued to raise money to make it eligible for United Way support. Adrian's name is among those inscribed on a stone monument honoring the area's outstanding citizens. In addition to his wife, Adrian is survived by his five children: Gerald and Alice Luchino of Annandale, VA, Frederick and Judy Luchino of Lakewood, WA, Newell and Catherine Luchino Mitchell of Hilton Head, SC, Michael Luchino and daughter Noelle Luchino of Greenbrae, CA, and Gary and Rosemarie Luchino Nepper of Lakewood, WA. Their families include 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 28th, 2006. Rosary begins at 9:50 am at Sacred Heart Parish at 4520 McKinley Avenue at 45th Street in Tacoma. Mass and Reception will follow with burial at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Sacred Heart Parish Altar Society, or a charity of your choice. Please leave online condolences at www.gaffneyfuneralhome.com . Arrangements by Gaffney Funeral Home, 253-572-6003.
